3 Track Obervellmar

Previous situation:

A bottleneck at Obervellmar station with only two tracks for the two lines that meet there - Kassel - Korbach and Kassel - Warburg - meant that only a limited number of RegioTrams could travel on both lines.

Solution:

A third track with a centre platform was built in the station area and a second track was built on the Obervellmar - Ahnatal-Casselbreite section (branch to Wolfhagen/Korbach). The construction work included not only the track and platform facilities, but also new noise barriers, retaining walls and safety technology. Obervellmar station was made more attractive and platforms 2 and 3 were made barrier-free with a new lift system.

The modernisation measures have made it possible for RegioTrams to run every 30 minutes on the Kassel-Wolfhagen and Kassel-Hofgeismar lines. Thanks to the overlapping of RegioTram lines 1 and 4, trains between Kassel main station and Obervellmar station (Harleshäuser Kurve) even run every 15 minutes.
