Hofgeismar
Previous situation:
The historic railway station in Hofgeismar was located on the track side facing the Protestant Academy. This meant that travellers from the city centre first had to cross the tracks to buy a ticket in the customer centre or visit the toilets before starting their journey.
The old reception building was located directly on the track after a track conversion, meaning that the building could not be renovated without a long-term closure of a main track. From here, the platform could only be reached via the stairs in the pedestrian subway or a non-disabled-friendly ramp with a subsequent lift and was therefore not accessible for the disabled. There was a limited number of parking spaces for cars and bicycles.
Solution:
This and other difficulties in the use of the building led to the construction of a new service building with a waiting room, NVV customer centre, bistro and WC facilities on the side of the track facing the city. A large P+R car park, a bus stop for all bus routes, covered bicycle parking spaces and two collective garages for bicycles were also created there. With the addition of a lift, the station is now handicapped accessible. A special feature is the energy supply for the entire building: a solar system on the roof is used to generate energy and an air heat pump for heating. The building can supply itself, as well as the e-car and e-bike charging points, with electricity.
