Korbach railway station
Previous situation:
Travelling from Korbach to Frankenberg by public transport was only possible by bus. The existing railway line was closed in 1987. The Korbach terminus was connected to Kassel and Willingen every hour via the RB4. From Frankenberg, the regional railway ran to Marburg every hour.
Solution:
The disused railway line was reactivated in 2015. Five new stations were built en route and put back into operation, some of which are directly linked to the bus. All stations have a P+R facility and bicycle parking. The region is now optimally integrated into the transport network. Today, many recreational travellers use the line as it runs through the Kellerwald-Edersee holiday region which boats ahigh recreational value.
The railway line not only provides good connections within the NVV network area, but also creates routes to central and southern Hesse as well as to the Hochsauerland district and the Ruhr region. The number of passengers on this section of the route has doubled since the railway line was reactivated.
Korbach's main railway station and the entire area surrounding the station were remodelled for Hessentag 2018. To this end, the central bus station (ZOB) was made barrier-free and fitted with a spacious roof. The city bus now stops directly at the platform, making it particularly convenient to change buses. The tracks are accessible via lifts. The P+R facilities have been expanded, as have the bicycle parking facilities. A collective garage on the city centre side, in front of the subway, also offers high-quality bicycles and e-bikes a secure parking space with charging function for a fee. The NVV customer centre has moved into a new service building directly at the ZOB with a view of the platforms. There is also a waiting area and sanitary facilities here. Since the remodelling, the station has a clearer layout and the distances are shorter.
