Melsungen
Previous situation:
Trains stopping in Melsungen were not barrier-free.
Melsungen station - previously the only train station in the town - is located just outside the town centre.
Solution:
The railway station in Melsungen was made accessible to disabled people. In addition, a new RT station "Bartenwetzerbrücke" was created directly at the entrance to the town centre. An NVV info point, a café and toilet facilities have been added to the station building itself through a conversion and extension.
Another new feature is the central bus station which is located just a short distance from the railway tracks. In addition, P+R and B+R facilities have been built on both sides of the tracks. Bicycle boxes can also be rented. All of these measures now provide a very good and convenient infrastructure in Melsungen.
The conversion of the station was honoured with the European Rail Award, and the significant increase in passenger numbers on the RegioTram line to Kassel also confirms the positive effect of the measures.
The RegioTram from Melsungen to Kassel now runs every half hour.
