Questions and answers

The school excursion ticket, in conjunction with an accompanying sheet for the individual journey, entitles the holder to free use of buses and trains for excursions in Hessian schools. It can be used by primary and lower secondary school classes accompanied by a teacher and another accompanying person and is provided by the state of Hesse to all eligible schools. The ticket is valid for any number of journeys in 2nd class on regular services (according to the fixed and published timetable) throughout Hesse on all forms of local public transport (ÖPNV).

The school excursion ticket can be used by primary and lower secondary school classes for school trips and school excursions. One teacher and one other accompanying person, such as a social worker or parent, are permitted per school class. If the school class is accompanied by additional persons, they each require a separate ticket valid for the trip. All accompanying persons must be 18 years of age or older.
There is no minimum or maximum number of people in the school class. As the size of the class increases, it may be necessary to divide the group into several trips or vehicles. In this case, an additional school excursion ticket and an additional copy of the accompanying person form must be carried for each subgroup.

The number of tickets sent out is calculated based on respective number of primary and lower secondary classes per school in the 2022/2023 school year. The tickets are not class-specific and can be used for the required number of school trips and excursions.

The school excursion ticket is valid from September 4, 2023 to December 31, 2024. The ticket is printed with the period of validity and must be stamped with a school stamp.

As with the Schülerticket Hessen, the school excursion ticket is valid on all buses, trams, RegioTrams, subway trains, suburban trains and regional trains in Hessen and in some cases also across federal states in neighbouring areas, which are specified below. Night bus and express bus lines may also be used. The use of services subject to a surcharge, such as on-demand and AST services, requires a surcharge per person. The use of long-distance trains (IC/ICE/EC) is excluded.

The school excursion ticket can also be used to travel to the following destinations outside the borders of Hesse, the same validity as the Hesse-wide Schülerticket

The school excursion ticket can be used for school trips and school excursions. The trip must be a group trip. The school excursion ticket cannot be used for regular lessons or for trips to and from lessons, such as trips to swimming or sports lessons. The same applies to trips as part of vocational orientation measures and for trips during the general school vacations in Hesse.

The school excursion ticket is only valid in conjunction with the accompanying form for the respective school trip or school excursion.
Each trip must be documented in a school excursion ticket accompanying sheet provided for this purpose before the start of the trip.
For excursions lasting several days, a separate accompanying sheet must be created for each class and excursion day on which public transport is used (see below for how to create one).
The ticket or tickets and the accompanying sheet must be carried by the teacher or accompanying person for the entire duration of the trip and presented to the inspecting staff on request during ticket inspections. In addition, the person responsible for the school trip or school excursion must be able to identify themselves as staff of the school indicated by the stamp on the school excursion ticket. The school management can issue this proof informally in a simple paper document with a school stamp. You can find a sample template for the school staff activity certificate at www.schuelerticket.hessen.de

From February 1, 2024, the accompanying form for the school excursion ticket can only be obtained via the "online logbook" (web portal) available to Hessian schools. Further information can be found in the user manual "Fahrtenbuch-Portal (Schulausflugticket-Begleitbogen)", which is available to schools.

The school excursion ticket form is only issued for one day at a time and contains the following information: School, school location, school class, date of journey, single journey (outward/return journey) or day ticket, start location (if different from the school location), destination (if there are several excursion destinations, the furthest away destination must be indicated), total number of persons taking part and of those the number of persons without their own existing ticket valid for the journey, as well as a stamp field for the school. The accompanying form does not contain any personal details.

The accompanying form generated digitally via the "Online Fahrtenbuch" must be printed out and stamped with the school stamp, date and signature.

The school excursion ticket is financed by the state of Hesse and is available free of charge to schools in Hesse.

The school excursion ticket is issued as a forgery-proof paper ticket, which must be marked with the stamp of the respective school. The ticket can be kept in a suitable protective cover and must be removable for inspections. Lamination of the ticket is not permitted.

The school excursion ticket is provided by the state of Hesse to all eligible schools.

If a school excursion ticket is lost, the school concerned must report this immediately to RMV, stating the time at which the loss became known, the school, the school location and the ticket number. For this purpose, each school must document the numbers of the school excursion tickets (on the ticket in the footer on the right).

The following addresses are available for reporting lost tickets to RMV:

For school excursions and school trips, the capacity of the means of transport usedmust be estimated. Binding information on group registration can be found on the respective websites of the RMV, NVV and VRN transport associations. Please note that it is not possible for transport companies to increase capacity.
